About Us

The North Ridge Country Club Senior Men's Golf Association (SGA) is a not-for-profit group open to any male member, 50-years of age and older.

Membership dues are paid yearly. Dues are used for SGA administrative matters, event awards and to cover luncheons for selected events.

The SGA Board consists up of 4 volunteer members, serving 3 year terms. Board members are selected by the general association membership.

Major golf-related matters include:

  • Interclubs

The association is fortunate to share interclub dates (generally, April-through-October) with area clubs including: (In 2008) Brier Creek, Prestonwood, Bentwinds, MacGregor, Raleigh, Wakefield TPC, Hope Valley, Governors Club, Chapel Hill CC, Croasdaile, Devils Ridge and Treyburn.

The Interclub season includes a season-ending event (CASMGA Championship) for some of the above clubs.

Interclub events include a continental breakfast and luncheon at the host club. Play is shotgun start and participation fee includes carts, food and prizes (redeemable at host club pro shop). Usually, there is a flighted Net competition, with foursomes arranged by the host club's pro shop.

  • Tuesday Shotgun and Lunch

Three Tuesdays during the summer the SGA has a mini-tournament with a shotgun start (riding cart required) followed by lunch provided by the SGA.

  • "Ladder Tournament"

Each April, SGA members may sign up for a bracketed, single elimination match play tournament. Matches are completed within the scheduled month; the event goes on a number of months until a bracket-winner has been determined. If multiple brackets, the bracket winners playoff to determine the event champion. The event is in some years a two-man team event, in other years a single player event. The event is always scored NET and the number of brackets depend upon the number of entrants. Brackets are flighted by the handicap. The 2009 event is two man team best ball round-robin by flight; three flights, five matches per flight (18-hole match play, scored hole by hole) - two points for a win, one for a tie (no "overtime"). The 2008 event was two man team best ball (18-hole match play, scored hole by hole) single elimination within the flight.

  • Centurion

Annual event with the LGA - men’s & ladies flighted tournament.

  • Senior Invitational

An annual one day member-guest event, including breakfast, golf & lunch.

  • SGA Championship

The last major SGA golf event for the season is bracketed by age to determine the SGA champion.

  • SGA Banquets

The SGA sponsors a Spring Banquet to open the golf season. The Fall Banquet closes the golf season and serves as the presentation of awards and election of new officers.

Other SGA Activities

A major non-golf matter that the association participates in is the Salvation Army Bell Ringing project. The SGA sponsors two kettle/ bell ringing sites during the Christmas holidays to collect money for the needy. SGA members and spouses volunteer for this activity.

Other Senior golf

Naturally, the senior man golfer at North Ridge has other opportunities for play with other seniors. Two groups that are quite well organized and have regular play schedules are played on Thursday and Friday. If you are not currently participating with these groups and want more information, send a message to us and we will get back to you with a contact person's name.
