Since 1976, I have been fortunate to play golf a number of times in Scotland over the years. Prior to my retirement from IBM in 1998 I was lucky to stop in Scotland once a year or so - and, after retirement it has become primarily a bi-annual event for my wife and I.

Visits (of course) resulted in photos that I have placed on the Web and some people have viewed. I have, now, moved most of those-viewed photos into a central location as a convenience to myself - and, this Web page is the result of that action.

The information is strictly my own interpretation of "things" as my (and my wife's as my vacation/playing partner) visits took place. This site has zero commercial value and interests. In April 2012 and 2014 we were, again, fortunate to visit St. Andrews and the Links Trust courses. We now limit our play to primarily three of the Links Trust courses: The New Course, The Jubilee Course and The Castle Course. However, at the end of the 2014 visit, we did (after my not playing the course for over 25 years) play the Eden. We enjoyed it and the experience of playing the Eden will lead us to play (in upcoming visits) two other St. Andrews Links Trust courses: The 18-hole Strathtyrum and the 9-hole Balgove. Stay tuned, if interested.

This Web page/site contains some photos taken as we played the courses that we HAVE visited in 2012/2014. I also have added to this Web page/site some photos of the Castle Course taken during our 2007 and 2009 visits. I have some comments as I show the photos; just ignore the comments if they get in the way of anything!

Naturally, over the years, we visited other courses: Gullane, North Berwick West and East (Glen), Crail, Lunden Links, Carnoustie, Cruden Bay and Dornoch come immediately to mind. We have photos of most of those -- but, time and other reasons result in (at this time) limiting this Web page/site to the St. Andrews Links Trust - managed courses; and, our visits to Scotland (now) are primarily limited to the St. Andrews area.

I have to mention, about such a stay, that the Links Trust 7-day Ticket and their 3-day Ticket is, in my view, a prime example of public golf sharing its wealth with others. I appreciate that the Links Trust has made the Ticket's "affordable"/available to us and I encourage any golfer considering a trip to Scotland to use the 7-day or 3-day Ticket. This may sound like a publicity comment - but, it is not: I can only hope that the Links Trust continue the Ticket program until my next visit to St. Andrews! I assume that the Ticket program will remain if a sufficient number of golfers participate; that, is why I mention it here. I want the program to remain in place!!!

I am not a camera/photo-expert; the photos are taken using a mid-price-range 3-year-old digital camera. Your camera is probably superior! If you have photos of any of the St. Andrews' courses that you could point me to - I would love to see them.

Getting Started on The New Where you Are Going on The New Wonderful Driving Holes on The New The New is mostly straight-out and straight back-in; with a few hole's being an exception to that rule. This is one of the straight-out holes: The par-5 3rd. Playing The New Alongside The Old Course The front side of The New is separated from The Old by the public walking path. Certainly, play The Old if you can - but, I guarantee you will also enjoy The New! The New was opened in 1895.... So, it has had time to develop its own character. These are two views of The Old Course from the New's 8th fairway. Finishing Up - on The New Enjoy the clubhouse views, afterwards!

Getting Started on The Jubilee Where you Are Going on The Jubilee The Jubilee - Deceptively "Wide-Open" The Jubilee is mostly open; not overly constrained by the gorse or other-such matters - although, of course, the gorse is always there... The Jubilee is well protected with bunkers and do not be fooled: Stay in the middle of the fairway as much as possible! This is the view looking back at the Par-3 5th from the 6th tee. Ending The Round on The Jubilee The 18th is a wonderful par-4. Long.... and if the wind.... Don't go left or right. Hit it as long as you want to / can! Enjoy the Clubhouse (located to the right of the 18th green as viewed in these photos), afterwards. It is a perfect spot to end the round. Play The Castle or The New in the afternoon!

Getting Started on The Castle Where you Are Going on The Castle Par-4 16th - Green Area at The Castle A beautiful view - of a challenging-to-hit green. By now, hopefully, you are enjoying the round and not minding your score! The bench shown on the left side of this photo would be a wonderful place for a late day respite after-the-round walk-back from the clubhouse, following the service road. Enjoy the views and other player's shots. I do that, next time we visit Scotland. Don't worry... I will stay on the service road while walking and not bother the players! Sounds great, to me. Par 3 17th at The Castle Enjoy this view - on your way to the Yellow or Red Tee. The tee shot requires a full carry over the "grand canyon". The multiple tee locations are welcome and invite a lot of variety to the player. A "bailout" area is provided to the left of the green; however, the bunkers come into play if you take that path. A Drop Zone is available in front/left of the Forward Tee (left side of this photo). A five from there will be welcomed by many players.
