Some Food-Related Comments
Saved, here, for our memories!
Little Italy
Although the food choice is available anywhere in the world -- this is our favorite restaurant while we are in St. Andrews for evening dining (it is located a 3-minute walk from our cottage). If you want Italian food in the evening: A reservation is a must. You will ALWAYS have to have a reservation -- the restaurant is quite small; but, now that you have been told that: Sometimes, you get lucky and a table has "opened up" if you stop by... chances, though, are slim... If you are "late-evening" (after 9:00pm or so), your chances of getting "in" without a reservation are much improved. Remember.... The daylight is VERY long in the summer!

Little Italy Restaurant, St. Andrews
Dunvegan's
The bar is a popular spot for after-golf respite - and, known for their hamburger if you are looking for such. We also enjoy their Sticky Toffee Pudding... but, all places we go to are fine; we have not, yet (over the years) decided which place is best for Sticky Toffee Pudding!
Jigger Inn
In the "old days" - this was the place for the caddies - and, as the mid-1900s and afterwards came about: The players - to have their after-round drinks. Now: It is still very popular and the view of the Old Course as you enter the Jigger Inn "grounds" or sit in the Jigger Inn outside terrace is very special.
According to Sonja's golf pro/teacher in St. Andrews, the Jigger Inn has the best hamburger in St. Andrews. David agrees - The Jigger Inn hamburger is terrific and is a "destination meal" now. Their entire menu is fine.
The Janner Inn is now physically and otherwise attached to the Old Course Hotel -- but, do not let this deter you from visiting the Jigger Inn.
Castle Course Clubhouse
A two mile journey outside of town. Well worth it, to stop there if you are on your way-to or coming-from another course (such as Crail or Kingsbarns). Of course, if you ARE playing the Castle Course: A wonderful place to view the challenges of the 9th and 18th greens and the sea 200 yds away.
If you play the Castle Course: Just ignore your score and putting (just take two putts max) and enjoy the round.
Some of the Course - Before or After the Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner!

Visitor Clubhouse
A golfer playing St. Andrews Links Trust courses will definitely make use of the Visitor Clubhouse. Now that is said: If "all" the player does is play the Old Course -- he/she may choose to just "walk past" this part of St. Andrews. Others of us, will visit this clubhouse -- and the area surrounding the clubhouse to purchase the 3-day or 7-day ticket for playing the non-Old Course Links Trust golf courses, if for no other reason.
Before or after the play: The Visitor Clubhouse restaurant (and, as well, the locker rooms) are used by most players who play the New Course and the Jubilee Course or, perhaps, are giving the Ladies Putting Course (located next to the Visitor Clubhouse) a try. The Eden Course and its clubhouse is about 1/2-mile across the following-shown area (a two minute car drive). The Castle course is about 3-miles from this spot (a five-to-ten minute car drive) outside of the town of St. Andrews.
The Visitor Clubhouse bill, in 2017, came in a Sleeve that we could not figure out what was the purpose of the "Table of Strokes" information printed on the Sleeve. Any clues/opinions? If you know... Thank you, in advance, for getting back to me.

Vine Leaf Restaurant
In business for 30+ years, the restaurant is a place to go for "dining". It is not a pub. I suspect that multiple generations of St. Andrews University families have viewed the Vine Leaf as "their" restaurant.
If you are looking for Scottish cuisine, the Vine Leaf is the place to go.
Reasonably priced.
