Scanned Document in Picture Format

This picture could be added to a fax using Microsoft Word or something similar -- but, its format is more applicable to its being an attachment to an eMail.

PaintShopPro was used to format the scanned newspaper into the following picture.

Hi!

I scanned the following off of the Raleigh newspaper as a test document of scanning, for my work. Since it looks OK I pass it your way instead of just tossing it away.

It refers to something Apple-related and I thought you might be interested.

I will try to not fax you late-ish in the evening. I thought, perhaps, you had your phone in your office set up in such a way it did not bother you upstairs. Sorry!

Anyway --- following are the document’s words I scanned and, just, toss this after you have browsed it; it is not a critical matter!

Have a good February and

Regards,

Dave Shogren

AppleWorks makes a good thing

Software Review

Price: $79

COX NEWS SERVICE

ATLANTA - At long last, Apple Computer is preparing to release a vastly improved version of its AppleWorks suite of productivity applications. Most of you will remember this program as ClarisWorks. Regardless of its name, this is a great piece of software, and Apple has made it even better, redesigning the program from the bottom up.

Like Microsoft Office, AppleWorks is a collection of integrated applications. They include word processing, database, spreadsheet, painting and page layout. In version 6.0, Apple has replaced the communications module with one for making presentations.

AppleWorks never was a powerhouse with advanced features equaling those of Microsoft Office. But it has always been the easiest program of its kind to learn and use. That hasn't changed with version 6.

What Apple has done, though, is add a lot of the power features already in Office. They include an interactive outline mode, a thesaurus, document password protection and seamless integration with the Internet without the need for a Web browser.

You can also draw tables within a document, auto-save your work and tap in free to a Web database of more than 25,000 images and 150 templates. Images, video and sound clips and photos can be dragged and dropped into any AppleWorks document.

What you'll notice first about AppleWorks is the look. It has been redesigned to take advantage of the improved graphic capabilities of Apple's latest operating systems. The program now features a series of floating toolbars. They are tabbed and feature sharply rendered icon representations of documents, functions and images.

The toolbars are highly customizable. You add or remove icons through drag and drop. Make the icons big or small, and orient your toolbars vertically or horizontally. In addition, the toolbars are semi-transparent, letting you see through them to documents underneath.

Many users will appreciate the addition of drag-and-drop tables in AppleWorks. Tables are added now by simply dragging an icon from the toolbar to the document. Text automatically wraps around the table.

Writers will especially appreciate two new features. One is the inclusion of a thesaurus, although it's not as good as the printed version of Roget's. But then again, neither is Microsoft Word's thesaurus.

The other feature is an interactive outline tool, long one of the best features of Word. With AppleWorks, you can now start writing with an outline and expand that outline into a finished document. Or you can do the reverse, start writing and then view your work as a reorganizable outline.

Not every new feature of AppleWorks has been described. This is a big upgrade, and surely there'll be some bugs. But at first glance it looks like a winner.

Apple expects to release AppleWorks 6.0 in February for $79. The program also win probably be included with most new Macs sold after that date.

For more information, check out Apple's Web presentation of AppleWorks. You'll find it at wwwapple.com/appleworks.
